Anew

The first few rays of light came out as the old woman stared vacantly towards the window, taking her last breath. Suddenly everything felt alright, the pain washing away as the warm light engulfed her. Years, years, and years raced before her eyes, reliving each one. 80- Warm, bitter tears of sorrow ran down her cheeks as she saw her beloved 9ft under. She had had her heart broken before but this one sent a bullet through her heart, crippling it even till her last days vowing to never love again. 50- "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you.." she blew out the candles on her cake, savoring this precious moment knowing that each year she would get form now on would be a blessing. She couldn't believe that time had gone by so fast gradually turning her into an old woman. 45- She hugged her first born tightly as if she never wanted to let go, afraid she might slip away. Her baby all grown up right before her eyes was heading off to college, reality staring back at her. She drove back home all alone, just her and the radio playing softly and one burning question on her mind "How did I get here?" 17- Blue hats filled the sky all around, as the recent high school graduates celebrated throwing hers along with everyone else's. A big wide smiled spread across her face, her bright eager eyes looking forward towards the future. "I made it" she whispered to herself as she walked away never turning back. 14- Anxiety filled her, looking up at the long 4 years ahead of her. She couldn't wait to be out of there and off to college, time seemed to be slowly ticking by. 9- The sound of her teachers voice faded into the background, she herself silently slipping away from reality. She thought about how she would be when she was older and how cool it was going being able to do anything she wanted. "I can't wait till I'm older" she said smiling to herself. 5- Her little hands tightly held on to her mothers walking into kindergarten. She didn't want to let go of her mom, she was scared about this thing called 'school' what if no one liked her? what if she got lost? All the way to school she told her mother these things and once they got there her mother looked at her said "You'll never know if you never try, have faith things will all work out" 13 months- She pulled herself up, her fat chubby legs trying to stand still as she took her first steps. Her parents cheerfully clapped as she wobbly walked towards them.  0- Her eyelids flew open. Everything was so bright, so new. Small lungs took their first breath of air and time had begun.
